I’m no political commentator, so take this as an amateur attempt.
From 2014 to 2019, India’s Modi wave went from Big to Bigger. With the 2024 election results, instead of it becoming the Biggest, we are probably seeing this as Modi at his Humblest.
I, for one, think this is the best thing for Indian Democracy, for Modi, and most-importantly for Indian Governance.
Make no mistake, humility is not humiliation, however much the opposition wants to frame it that way.
A still-powerful NDA at the center allows for continuity of government, of policy and of direction. It ensures our bankrupt or aggressive neighbours are kept in check. And it means that our infrastructure projects remain on schedule.
Coalition-heavy governments often struggle with inefficiency, endlessly trying to retain majority by horse-trading. With the near-majority status as a single-party, the distractions from coalition dynamics should be minimal.
Through this humbling, our PM has received a precious gift from the electorate – a gift that will allow him to go back to first principles, solving for job creation, shift to renewable energy, improving healthcare and upgrading education.
This invaluable gift, something that generations of founders and successful people have depended on, is Focus.
Modi has been amongst India’s ablest administrators, and he needs to understand this. He needs to become the Modi we elected in 2014. India has a long way to go in terms of better everything. Modi is the right person to make it happen.
My words for the next five years: Humbled is better focused.
