Dr. Raja Ramanna passed away today in Mumbai.
Besides being the head of the secret (govt.) group that defied third-world rules and made India go atomic in 1974 he was also the head of India’s (then) premier scientific research center at BARC and a member of the Rajya Sabha.
To top it all, he was an old Cottonian (thats a Bishop Cotton Boys School alum, for you irregulars).
Indian defense is trying to continue growing with a new generation of younger scientists who don’t have the ideals of freedom fighters and might not have so much of the Made-In-India zeal (what with the number of H1-B’s being handed out). So lets just hope I am proved wrong and some more seriously brilliant scientists can come up through the molasses that is the India Government System.
Just that much more worse for our defense and scientific community.
